Joyce Lee Rox
January 23, 1933
October 12, 2026
Joyce Lee Rox, known as “Granny” by all who loved her, was born on January 23, 1933 and passed into eternal glory peacefully on October 12, 2026. Granny followed Jesus steadfastly, loved her family intently, and served her church faithfully.
Joyce was born to the union of Ogden and Zena Johnson in Turkey Creek, LA where she was raised helping in the family business. She married her loving husband, A.P. Rox in 1951 and together they built an incredible family which spanned 6 generations in her household and was her pride and joy. Their family started with 5 children in a small home in Alexandria, LA. Through the years of hard work and faithfulness, God provided them a new home in Glenmora, LA 49 years ago. Their roots quickly spread into the community by way of serving in their church.
No one loved having kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids (and unofficial family) fill the house with laughter more than Granny did. Her legacy will be demonstrating how to follow Jesus in good times and bad times to her family for generations to come. She was a stalwart of faith, a lover of the scriptures, a great cook who never let anyone leave hungry, and the sweet friend that could be counted on at all times.
During the later time of life and through years of physical ailment she longed even greater to go to heaven. First and foremost to be with Jesus, her dear Savior. Also, to join many loved ones. Joyce is preceded in death by her husband, A.P. Rox, her parents, Ogden and Zena Johnson, and two sisters and two brothers, Florence O’Pry, Geneva Kenner, Herman Johnson, and James Johnson. Also, there to greet her in heaven is her grandson, Kenneth “Rookie” Gillespie III, and her son-in-law, Reggie Burnaman.
Those who remain to honor her memory and continue to be encouraged that her faith is now sight include her son, Tony Rox (Cindy), daughters, Tina Burnaman, Beth Hopkins (Devone), Annette Monroe (Joe), and Zena Gillespie (Kenneth). Nine grandchildren were the Apple of Granny’s eye and each of them were sure they were her favorite. Todd Burnaman (Jessica), Mandy Brown (Burl), Charlie Burnaman (Stephanie), Carrie Osborne (Jared), Carter Hopkins (Aubrey), Samantha Prestridge, Morgan McCann (Mike), Meredith NesSmith, and Megan Keiss (Michael).
Granny’s family legacy extends with 21 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.
Many in the Glenmora Baptist Church family, extended family, friends, and neighbors were loved by Granny and will carry on with great memories to the Glory of God.
The family would like to express appreciation for the great care received in the last weeks and months of Joyce’s life to Compassionate Care Hospice (Ashley Vercher, Racheal Daughtery, Erica Bordelon, and numerous on-call nurses), Shantrelle Wright At Home Sitter Service (Jane McNeal, Charity Sheppard, and Robin Blankenship) and her sweet sitters (Mechelle Doyle, Kaye Binger, and Nora McMorris)
The Life of Joyce Rox will be celebrated in a memorial service under the direction of Ardoin Funeral Home at Glenmora Baptist Church on Wednesday October 14, 2026. Visitation will begin at 9:00am and the service will begin at 2:00pm. Her body will be laid to rest at Alexandria Memorial Gardens following the service.
