Obituary

Elton-Funeral services for Joshua Mark Bertrand, age 19, will be held on Wednesday, July 21, 2010 at 10 am in St. Paul Catholic Church. Fr. Marshall Boulet will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Paul Cemetery under the direction of Ardoin Funeral Home of Kinder.
Visitation will begin in Ardoin Funeral Home of Elton on Tuesday, July 20, 2010 from 4pm-10pm with a rosary being recited at 7pm. Visitation will continue on Wednesday from 8am until time of service.
Joshua was a lifelong resident of Elton and member of St. Paul Catholic Church where he was an altar server as well as President of the Jr. Newman Club. He was a
2010 graduate of Elton High School where he was active in numerous organizations including Louisiana State Association FFA Vice-President, FFA Federation Area III Secretary, Elton FFA Chapter Vice-President, Captain-Elton High School Football Team, Captain-Elton Track Team, Beta Club, 4-H Club, New Heights Gym Pole Vault Competition Team, Elton PeeWee Football Volunteer, and Little Dribblers Volunteer. He was the recipient of several scholarships including the Fritz Lang Scholarship, H.C. Drew Scholarship, and the Yolande Farley Scholarship. He was also selected Woodmen of the World Outstanding American History Student, 2009 EHS Homecoming King and 2010 Mr. EHS. Joshua enjoyed agriculture, debating, sports, music, video gaming, and spending time with his family and friends. He touched the hearts of all who knew him with his lovable personality and was very caring and giving. Because Joshua wished to be an organ donor, his memory will continue with many recipients. Joshua was enrolled to attend McNeese State University this coming fall.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Malcolm Bertrand.
Survivors include his parents, Wendell and Julia Bertrand of Elton; paternal grandmother, Julia D. Bertrand of Elton; maternal grandparents, Dr. Bobby and Linda Nevils of Lafayette; one brother, Caleb Bertrand of Elton; two sisters, Morgan Bertrand of Lake Charles and Emily Bertrand of Elton; as well as a host of uncles, aunts and cousins.
