Obituary

Kinder-Funeral service for Mr. Joseph Ray "Chick" Fontenot, 85, will be held Wednesday,
October 19, 2011 at 10am in St. Philip Neri Catholic Church of Kinder. Father
Carlos Garcia and Father Anthony Fontenot will officiate. Burial will follow in Carter Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, October 18, 2011 from 10am-10pm in
Ardoin Funeral Home and continue Wednesday, October 19, 2011 at 8am until
time of service. A Taps Presentation will be presented by the American Legion Post
#244 at 6pm, October 18, 2011, followed by a rosary.
Mr. Joseph "Chick" Fontenot was a life long resident of Kinder. He enlisted
in the US Navy in 1944. He served and fought for our country in WWII on the
USS Walke "DD723" Destroyer in the Pacific Theater , as a radio
operator. He also was a member of the American Legion Post #244. He was a devoted
husband of 65 years and supported his family after the war at Gifford-Hill Gravel Pit
of Kinder and later retired from Santa Fe Marine, as a barge engineer of 25 plus years.
He enjoyed gardening, fishing, and loved his children and also playing with his
grandchildren. He was a very giving person and truly believed, "it is more blessed
to give than receive". He served his church and was a devoted Catholic. He was
also a member of the Knights of Columbus, an Usher, and an Eucharistic Minister.
He is survived by his wife, Euna Langley Fontenot of Kinder; three sons,
James Fontenot of Dayton, Tx., Robert Fontenot and wife Jeanne of Lake Charles,
Grady Fontenot and wife Tracie of Kinder; two daughters, Alice Reno of Bonham,
Tx., and Elizabeth Brotherton of Colorado Springs, Co.; and eight grandchildren; and
eight great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Lucien and Alice Fontenot; and six
brothers and three sisters.
