Joseph Benton LeJeune (Ben), 81, passed away Monday, April 26, 2010 in his home surrounded by his family. Mr. LeJeune was born January 9, 1929 in Church Point. He was married to Ruby Thibodaux LeJeune, also of Church Point, for 61 years. He was a resident of Kinder for the past 52 years where he was owner of LeJeune's Heating and Air Conditioner until retirement.
Mr. LeJeune served in the Air Force from 1946 to 1949 where he was stationed in the South Pacific. He loved his experiences in the service of which he had many fond memories of his time in the service.
During his life in Kinder, he was active in many organizations. He was a Boy Scout Master and the first Cub Scout Master in Kinder. Mr. LeJeune started recreational girl's softball in Kinder and coached the team for several years. He also coached boy's recreational baseball, was a volunteer fireman, and a member of the Lion's Club.
Mr. LeJeune was a member of St. Philip Neri Catholic Church where he belonged to the Knights of Columbus and was a Fourth Degree Grand Knight. He attended the Catholic Cursille in Prairie Rone.
Mr. LeJeune's hobbies were fishing, including hand fishing, hunting, watching football and baseball. He was an excellent cook and enjoyed being with people. His greatest accomplishment in life was loving his family.
He leaves to honor his memory, his loving wife, Ruby and his five children, Wanda Caldarera and husband Max of Westlake, Benny LeJeune and wife Julie of Westlake, Jackie Tietje Griffin and husband Gary of League City, TX, Carla Reeves of Westlake, Bernard LeJeune & wife Richelle of Kinder. Mr. LeJeune has 11 grandchildren & 5 great grandchildren.
Mr. LeJeune is preceded in death by his parents, Valentine & Phelix LeJeune, and was the last survivor of his sibling.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, April 29, 2010 at 11:00am in St. Philip Neri Catholic Church. Father Carlos Garcia will officiate. Burial with military honors will follow in Carter Memorial Cemetery.
Visitation will be held in Ardoin Funeral Home of Kinder Wednesday from 3pm-8pm with a vigil service at 6pm and a rosary will follow. Visitation will continue Thursday at 9am until time of service.
