Glenmora-John Thomas Burns, 75, passed away peacefully at home on April 6, 2023.  Funeral service will be held at 1 o'clock p.m. on Tuesday, April 11, 2023, at Harmony Baptist Church.  Rev. David Lemmons will officiate.  Burial will follow immediately at Alexandria Memorial Gardens under the direction of Ardoin/Allen Parish Funeral Homes.

The family will receive visitors at Harmony Baptist Church of Glenmora on Monday, April 10, 2023, from 2-8 p.m.  Visitation will resume at the church on Tuesday morning from 8 a.m. until time of service.

John Thomas, affectionately known as "Tommy", was a retired heavy equipment mechanic through the International Union of Operating Engineers for gas and oil pipelines.  He worked all over the United States on various jobs but was always glad to be home.  In the early days racing at the Forest Hill track, Tommy built race cars for himself and others.  He even competed in some of the races.  There were many late work nights in his shop. He was a member of the CENLA Old Car Club.  He enjoyed driving his '64 Ford Falcon and '85 Chevrolet El Camino.  He was also in the process of restoring an old fire truck.  Tommy was a member of Harmony Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, Chairman of several committees, and was Sunday School Superintendent.  Tommy will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Those left to cherish Tommy's memory include his devoted wife of 58 years, Linda Dyer Burns; his daughter, Malinda Morein and husband, Wayne; and his fur baby, Prissy.  He is also survived by many "Hebert" nieces and nephews of Oberlin.

Tommy is preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Lela Mae Fogleman Burns; his sister, Barbara Hebert; and brother-in-law, Simon Hebert.

Tommy's family would like to thank everyone for all prayers, calls, texts, visits, and food.  Special thanks are extended to Compassionate Care Hospice for their wonderful care and service during the family's time of need!
