Elton-Funeral service for John Michael Broderick, 72, will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, February 10, 2015, at St. Paul Catholic Church of Elton. Rev. Marshall Boulet will officiate. Burial will follow in Arlington Cemetery with full military honors at a future date.
The family will receive visitors at Ardoin Funeral Home of Elton on Monday, February 9, 2015 from 3-9 p.m. with a rosary being prayed at 6:30 p.m. Visitation will continue at the funeral home on Tuesday morning from 8 a.m. until time of service.
Survivors include his two sons, John Broderick of Elton and Christopher Broderick of Las Vegas, NV; three daughters, Rachael Broderick Rosier and husband, James, of Pollock, Shannon Broderick of DeRidder, and Michayla Broderick of Maryland; one sister, Marilyn Dewees of Elton; six grandchildren; and 5 great grandchildren.
Michael was a native of Elton, Louisiana. He began his career as an Air Traffic Controller in the US Navy and then, transferred to the US Air Force as an Air Traffic Controller. He retired honorably from the USAF. He served as a certified professional controller in six control towers, four approach control facilities and additionally as Chief Controller (Operations Manager) in one air traffic control tower and three approach control facilities. Michael also served as Operations Supervisor in all Air Force facilities assigned. He was promoted to Petty Officer Third Class at age 19 and Senior Master Sergeant with 17 years of service. He graduated from Johnson County Community College with honors and also the Community College of the Air Force. Michael served our country during the Vietnam War and was awarded the Bronze Star, Cross of Gallantry, Meritorious Service 2 Oak Leaf Clusters, and the Medal of Honor. He was also retired after twenty-nine years of Federal Aviation Administration management as an Air Traffic Controller. During that time, he had the honor of serving as Air Traffic Manager at Andrews AFB. He retired from federal service on January 3, 2010. Following retirement, Michael began to pass on his expertise as an Air Traffic Controller instructor. He was also a loving father, grandfather, and brother. He will be dearly missed by all whose lives he touched.
Michael is preceded in death by his parents, John and Elsie Broderick.
