Obituary

Oakdale-Homegoing Services for John Raymond Bond, 88, will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 30, 2019 at First United Pentecostal Church of Oakdale. Rev. T.R. Kelley and Rev. Shannon Buxton will officiate. Burial will follow at Cryer Cemetery under the direction of Ardoin/Allen Parish Funeral Homes.

The family will receive visitors at Ardoin/Allen Parish Funeral Home of Oakdale from 5-9 p.m. on Friday, November 29, 2019. Visitation will resume Saturday morning at the church from 8 a.m. until time of service.

John was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He loved string instruments and enjoyed playing the guitar, mandolin and harmonica. John was a great story-teller, often sharing stories about family and work. He was a man of strong faith, as well as, a member of First United Pentecostal Church where he enjoyed teaching Sunday school. John always found the good in everyone. He was an avid gardener and loved to read his Readers Digest. John served our country in the United States Army during the Korean War. After serving our country, he worked at Arizona Chemical for forty-three years and then Wal-Mart for eleven years as a greeter until his well-deserved retirement. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Those left to cherish John's memory include the mother of Barbara and Brenda, Ms. Velma Johnston; two sons, Johnny Erwin and Ronald Johnson; four daughters, Brenda Bond Taylor and husband, Joe, Barbara Bond Trahan and husband, Gaylon, Angie Johnson and husband, John, and Jodie Bond; special daughter-in-law, Carolyn Johnson; one brother, Everett "BoBo" Bond and wife, Deloris; one sister, Betty Stalsby; thirteen grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

John is preceded in death by his parents, John L. Bond and Melinda Ballard Bond; wife, Ruth Bond; one son, Sammy Bond; one brother, Buford Ray Bond; and three grandchildren, April Johnson Monday, Jonathan Erwin and Jeremy Taylor.
