Kinder-Funeral service for Joan Duplichan Smith, 80, will be held at 10 A.M. on Saturday, September 20, 2014, at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church. Rev. Keith Pellerin will officiate. Burial will follow in Carter Cemetery under the direction of Ardoin Funeral Home of Kinder.
The family will receive visitors in the chapel of Ardoin Funeral Home of Kinder on Friday evening from 4-9 P.M. A vigil service will be held at 6 P.M. followed by the praying of the rosary. Visitation will resume on Saturday morning from 8 A.M. until time of service.
Joan was a native of Kinder and was currently residing in Beaumont, Texas. She was a devoted wife of 58 years to her husband, Robert Charles. She was also a loving mother and grandmother. Joan was active in her church, St. Jude Thaddeus, of Beaumont. She was loved by all who knew her-she never met a stranger. She enjoyed reading and spending time with her family and friends. She loved life and laughter and was always positive. She delighted in telling others about her grandchildren's many accomplishments and milestones. Her grandchildren were truly her passion. Joan will be greatly missed.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Robert Charles Smith of Beaumont, Texas; two sons, Robert C. Smith, Jr. and wife, Belinda, of Virginia Beach, Virginia, and Steven Smith of Baton Rouge; two sisters, Vera D. England and Anna D. Weatherford, both of Kinder; five grandchildren-Robert III, Stephanie, Shelby, Tyler, and Kelsie.
Joan is preceded in death by her parents, Ezebe and Ezora Duplichan.
