Oberlin-Funeral service for James Darrell Wiggins, 87, will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, December 6, 2017, in Oberlin Baptist Church. Brother Shane Nugent and Rev. Cliff Spikes will officiate. Burial will follow in Georgetown Cemetery under the direction of Allen Parish Funeral Home of Oberlin.
The family will receive visitors at Oberlin Baptist Church from 5-9 p.m. Tuesday, December 5, 2017. Visitation will resume at the church on Wednesday morning from 8 a.m. until time of service.
James was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He was a member of Oberlin Baptist Church since 1962 where he served as a Deacon. He woke up early every Sunday morning to make biscuits for the church members whom also looked forward to him passing out peppermints and telling jokes. As a young man, he was a good athlete. James served our country during the Korean War. He was also an avid outdoorsman and especially enjoyed fishing at Toledo Bend. He retired from Hunt Oil Company after 30 years of service. He was known as "Paw Paw" to many children as well as his own grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Those left to cherish his memory include his devoted wife of 67 years, Shirley Wiggins of Oberlin; son, James Wiggins, Jr. and wife, Cindy, of Downsville; three daughters, Linda Humphries and husband, Bill, of Natchitoches, Susan Robertson and husband, Vince, of Tyler, TX, and Lori Jackson, of Oberlin; one brother, Bill Wiggins, of Chesapeake, VA; 8 grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren.
James is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Nan Wiggins; daughter, Lisa; and brother, Curtis Wiggins.
