James was a lifetime resident of Kinder and a lifetime member of Grace Community Church, formerly the First United Pentecostal Church. He was a 1978 graduate of Kinder High School. James was a helper and giver to anyone in need. He would never hesitate to give a helping hand as that was his joy in life.
He was a devoted husband of 33 years to his wife Pamela R. Smith, proud father of twin daughters, and the owner and operator of Smith's Paint and Body Shop for 30 years where he could always be found working until the late hours of the night. He loved visiting with friends, eating good food, riding his motorcycle, and spending time with his dogs.
He never let his cancer break his ever-cheerful spirit; he spent his time in prayer and devotion with his family and trying his best to give hope to those in his situation. "Ain't got nothing to lose but faith," was his motto and his lifestyle. He was greatly loved and will be even more greatly missed.
He is survived by his mother, Irma Howell Smith of Kinder; his wife, Pamela R. Smith and his twin daughters, Hayley B. and Lauren Elise Smith, all of Kinder; his brothers, Philip A. Smith and wife, Phyllis, of Taylorville, KY, Jack Smith, Jr. and wife, Mary Jane, of Lake Charles, and Ronald D. Smith of Kinder; and his sister, Doris E. Smith of Lake Charles.
He is preceded in death by his father, Jack Smith Sr. and his brother, Rodney Gene Smith.
The family would like to thank Dr. Michael Bergeron and the oncology staff at Lake Charles Memorial Hospital, Dr. Peggy Allemand and staff of Allen Parish Hospital, Dr. Peter Karam and staff at Harbor Hospice of Lake Charles, and the many friends who prayed and showed their love during James' lengthy illness.
