James "Jimmy" Fontenot was born September 25, 1947 to Joseph Chick and Euna Fontenot of Kinder, LA. He graduated from Kinder High School before joining the Navy during the Vietnam Era. He proudly served for four years before moving back to Kinder and going to work for Union Pacific. He retired from Union Pacific in the early 2000's. Jimmy loved the outdoors. He could be found outside in the garden, spending time fishing or in the deer stand looking for the big buck. This is a passion he got from his father. From August to February on Saturday and Sunday he would have no plans unless it involved LSU or Saints football. He would say I'm a Tiger on Saturday and a Saint on Sunday. He loved his children, Brandon, Andrea and Cory. He would tell everyone that would listen how proud he was of all three of them. When the subject of grandchildren came up, he believed he had the best around. He was so excited to have all of them in one place when the oldest, Madison, graduated. He would talk about their accomplishments and what activities they were in. Near or far, they had his heart. Jimmy will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Those left to cherish Jimmy's memory include his two sons, Brandon Fontenot and wife, Megan, of Colorado Springs, CO and Cory Fontenot and wife, Leia, of Groves, TX; daughter, Andrea Fontenot of Kinder and her significant other, William Kingrey of Lake Charles; two brothers, Robert "Bob" Fontenot and wife, Jeanne, of Lake Charles and Grady Fontenot of Kinder; two sisters, Alice Reno of Bonham, TX and Elizabeth Brotherton of Colorado Springs, CO; five grandchildren, Madison, Payton, Sterling, Kylie and Casey Fontenot; and three nieces, Connie Garcia and husband, Jeff, of Bonham, TX, Emily Hardman and husband, Lance, of New Caney, TX and Joley Fontenot and fiancé, Austin Perkins, of Ragley.
Jimmy is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Ray "Chick" Fontenot and Euna Marie Fontenot; wife, Jeanie Fontenot; and sister-in-law, Tracie Doescher Fontenot.
