Kinder-Funeral services for Irma Fontenot Nielsen, 81, will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, March 25, 2017, at Kinder Bible Church. Rev. Don Barrett will officiate. Burial will follow in Kinder McRill Cemetery under the direction of Ardoin Funeral Home of Kinder.
The family will receive visitors at Ardoin Funeral Home of Kinder, Friday, March 24, 2017, from 6-8 p.m. Visitation will resume Saturday, March 25, 2017, at Kinder Bible Church, from 1 p.m. until time of funeral.
Irma was a devoted wife to her husband, Howard, for 58 years, and a loving mother, grandmother, and sister. She was a woman of strong faith who taught Sunday School, C.E.F. classes, and Bible classes at the Lake Charles ABC Pregnancy Center. She taught public school in Allen Parish for twenty-nine years. Irma enjoyed spending time with her family. Hospitality, teaching, and compassion were her spiritual gifts. It was her joy to spend time with her grandchildren. She would never miss an opportunity to capitalize on a teachable moment or to instill truth and life lessons. Irma will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Those left to cherish Irma's memory include her husband, Howard Nielsen; two daughters, Beth Nielsen Perkins and husband, Billy, of Ruby, LA, and Myra Nielsen Forrester and husband, Kevin, of Wiesbaden, Germany; two brothers, Shelton Fontenot and wife, Mary Lee, of Reeves, and Sherman Fontenot and wife, Mary, of Kinder; one sister, Elaine Valentine and husband, Wallace, of Richmond, TX; and five grandchildren, Brandon, Anthony, Timothy, Brianna, and Michelle.
Irma is preceded in death by her parents, Raney and Tressie Fontenot; one brother, I.J. Fontenot; and one grandchild, Faith Forrester.
