Obituary

Kinder-Irene Broussard Baker, 95, a resident of Fenton, Louisiana, was called to her heavenly home July 4, 2012. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral service, which will be held on Friday, July 6, 2012 at 10am in the chapel of Ardoin Funeral Home of Kinder. Rev. Don Willis will officiate. Burial will follow in Pine Hill Cemetery of Iowa under the direction of Ardoin Funeral Home.
The family will receive visitors at Ardoin Funeral Home of Kinder beginning on Thursday, July 5, 2012 from 5-9pm and will continue visitation on Friday from 8am until time of service.
Mrs. Baker, a native of Breaux Bridge, Louisiana, was born to Lee Broussard and Candide Rees Broussard on February 18, 1917. She taught 2nd grade at Fenton High School for 30 years. After retirement, she traveled extensively with her beloved husband, Ivan Baker, to whom she was married for 64 years. They also liked to go dancing with friends as well as fishing. Mrs. Baker had a green thumb and a beautiful yard. She was a wonderful cook; well known for her Cajun dishes. She was a faithful member of Fenton Baptist Church and later, Trinity Baptist Church. She lived her last seven years at Villa Maria Retirement Home where she had many dear friends.
Survivors include her two daughters, Brenda Hoppe and husband, Jimmy of Iowa and Rebecca Stein and husband, Herb of New Orleans; four grandchildren-Steven Hoppe and wife, Jeannie of Pensacola, FL, Carol Hoppe of New Orleans, William Stein and wife, Amy of Houston, TX, and Richard Stein of New Orleans; five great grandchildren-Miranda, Nicole and Brandon Hoppe and Caitlyn and Lauren Stein; and three sisters, Melba Bollinger, Anna Lee Patin and Sylvia Elender.
Mrs. Baker is preceded in death by her husband, Ivan Baker and her siblings-Beatrice Campbell, Grace Degyeter, and Rodney Broussard.
Pallbearers for the Baker service will be Jimmy Hoppe, Herb Stein, Steven Hoppe, William Stein, Richard Stein, and Wendell Marcantel.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made in Irene's memory to the Fenton Baptist Church.
