Howard Bruce Nielsen, “The Best Dad In the World”, went to be with the Lord on February 9, 2026. He was a loving father of two daughters, Beth Naomi Nielsen Perkins and Myra Louise Nielsen Forrester; and he adored his wife, Irma Idell Fontenot Nielsen. He will be deeply missed by those who knew him.
Howard graduated in 1954 from Elton High School where he earned the nickname “legs” on the track team. During his school years, Howard gained mechanical skills by working on farm equipment at home and at school. Howard earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from McNeese State University in 1959.
As an adult, Howard was a faithful member of Kinder Bible Church. He served as a Deacon and an Elder. He and Irma served as Gideons witnessing for Christ by distributing Bibles.
Howard served his country in the United States Army. While at Fort Riley, Kansas, he received the honor of Outstanding Trainee. He also served with the 815th Engineers at Fort Bliss in El Paso, Texas.
Howard enjoyed “working the land”. He and his four siblings were raised on the family farm. They lived and worked together all their lives to build the family’s legacy, “Nielsen Farms.”
Howard could fix anything. He became an ASE Certified Master Mechanic and worked on large diesel trucks until he retired.
Howard was a devoted father, pawpaw, and uncle. He lead by example, reflecting his true love for the Lord Jesus Christ.
