Obituary

Oberlin-A Mass of Christian Burial for Herman Deshotel, 88, will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 17, 2021 at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church. Rev. Clyde Thomas and Deacon Dale Deshotel will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Soileau under the direction of Ardoin/Allen Parish Funeral Homes.

The family will receive visitors at Ardoin/Allen Parish Funeral Home of Oberlin on Friday, April 16, 2021 from 4-10 p.m. with the Holy Rosary being prayed at 7 p.m. Visitation will resume on Saturday morning from 8 a.m. until time of service.

Herman was a loving father, grandfather, great grandfather and brother.  He was a devoted husband to his wife, Carol, for sixty-five years until her passing in May of 2017. He was a lifelong resident of Soileau, as well as a faithful member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Soileau and St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church. Herman was also a lifelong member of the Knights of Columbus Council #3353. He worked very hard as a farmer to provide for his family. He loved listening to Cajun music, dancing, hunting in his younger days and most of all spending time with his family. Herman was a barbecue master and a "true pit-boss". He was a very kind and giving person who was devout in his demeanor, as well as his faith. He will be forever missed and unconditionally loved by all who knew and loved him.

Those left to cherish Herman's memory include his four daughters, Phylis Naquin of Lafayette, Florence Vidrine and husband, Wendell, of Soileau, Carla Moreau of Soileau and Corinne Granger and husband, Kenneth, of Soileau; two sons, Deacon James Dale Deshotel and wife, Kathy, of Oberlin and John Wilvan Deshotel of Soileau; one brother, Walter Deshotel, Jr. and wife, Juanita, of Iowa, LA; twelve grandchildren; twenty great grandchildren; as well as a host of nieces and nephews.

Herman is preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Lucinda Deshotel; wife, Carol Deshotel; two sons, Anthony Deshotel and Michael Keith Deshotel three sisters, Thelma Bartlett, Esyleta Langley and Geneva Deshotel; one grandson, Kyle Vidrine; and one great granddaughter, Hope Ray Brunet.

Pallbearers honored to serve are Jason Vidrine, Kevin Naquin, Derek Yeagley, Matthew Brunet, Matthew Duplechain, Landon Vidrine and Allen Langley,

Honorary Pallbearers will be Baylen Naquin and Sebastian Treadaway.
