Elton-Celebration of Life services honoring Herbert Allen Shirley, 81, will be held at 10 o'clock a.m. on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, at First Baptist Church in Elton. Rev. Ryan Temple will officiate. Herbert will be laid to rest at Liberty Cemetery in Elton immediately following his services.

Herbert's family will receive friends and visitors at Ardoin Funeral Home in Elton on Monday evening, November 4, 2024, from 4-9 o'clock p.m. All of Herbert's arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Ardoin Funeral Home of Elton.

Herbert was a dedicated educator and a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He was born on July 26, 1943, to the union of Marvin and Wilma Shirley in Deridder, LA, and passed away on October 29, 2024, at the age of 81. Herbert was a faithful and devoted husband to his wife Anne Shirley for 56 years, an amazing father to his children, Natalie and Blake, and a wonderful grandfather to his five grandchildren. Herbert was a devout Christian and a member of First Baptist Church in Elton where he loved and served the Lord. He was a 1961 graduate of Deridder High School. Herbert continued his education at Louisiana State University where he graduated with a degree in Agricultural Education in 1965 as well as later earning his master's degree in education. He enjoyed his lengthy career as an Ag teacher at Elton and Kinder High Schools where he spent countless hours working as the Future Farmers of America chapter sponsor. Herbert worked with many of the local students, including his own children, in showing livestock that included lambs, pigs, and steer. He also worked as an Oil Field Consultant for several years prior to his well-deserved retirement. Herbert enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening, but especially loved to watch his alma mater LSU Tigers play football and baseball. He was a very kind and caring person and will be forever missed and unconditionally loved by all who knew him.

Those left to cherish Herbert's memory include his wife Roseanne "Anne" Shirley; one son, Blake Shirley, and wife Brittney, one daughter, Natalie Fuselier, and husband Mark; one brother, Zach Shirley; five grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

Herbert is preceded in death by his parents, Marvin, and Wilma Shirley; and two brothers, Jeff, and Charles Shirley.
