Kinder-Funeral service for Herbert F. Chretien, age 83, will be held on Saturday, December 3, 2011 at 1pm in St. Paul Catholic Church of Elton. Rev. Babasino Fernandez will officiate. Burial will follow in Chretien Family Cemetery under the direction of Ardoin Funeral Home of Elton.
Visitation will be held at Ardoin Funeral Home of Elton beginning on Friday, December 2, 2011 from 4pm until the time of service on Saturday. A rosary will be recited on Friday evening at 7pm.
Herbert was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who worked hard over the years to provide for his family. He worked in the construction business and farming for many years and, most recently, had been a twelve-year employee of Coushatta Casino. He was faithfully devoted to his church throughout his life, always waking his children on Sunday mornings for mass. He was a self-educated man who loved reading. He enjoyed hunting, hand-fishing, watching wrestling and listening to Cajun music. He was also very proud of and loved speaking his first language-"creole french". He drank coffee every morning with his friends. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Survivors include four sons, Wilfred Chretien and Willis Chretien, both of Lake Charles, William Chretien of Pigeon Forge, TN, and Lennis Chretien of Kinder; four daughters, Jean Morris, Laura Jordan and Mary Allen, all of Westlake, and Bertha Chretien of Kinder; two brothers, Hollis Chretien of Elton and Harold Chretien, Sr. of Jonesboro;
14 grandchildren; and, 19 great grandchildren.
Herbert is preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Adella Chretien;
his parents, Dora and Leon Chretien; two sisters, Lillian Moresbroker and Loretta Gobert; one brother, Linus Gobert; and, one great grandson, Emmanuel Chretien.
