Oakdale-Funeral Services for Hazel Manuel Laird, 79, will be held at 5 p.m. on Sunday, July 12, 2020 at Ardoin/Allen Parish Funeral Home of Oakdale. Rev. Joe Welman will officiate. Burial will follow at Cryer Cemetery under the direction of Ardoin/Allen Parish Funeral Homes.
The family will receive visitors at Ardoin/Allen Parish Funeral Home on Sunday, July 12, 2020 from 10 a.m. until time of service.
Hazel was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was a devoted wife to her husband, Henry, for sixty-two years and four months. No matter where God led her husband to go preach the Gospel; Hazel was always by his side to spread the word of God. They were currently pastoring at Yancy Baptist Church. Hazel raised seven children with one of them being an adopted grandson. She loved to cook and sew. She made all the clothes for her children no matter if it was shirts for the boys or a dress for her daughter, Debbie. Her home was the place for everyone to come on Sunday and she always prayed that the food would be enough. Her greatest wish was that all of her children and grandchildren would get along and love one another. Hazel will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Those left to cherish Hazel's memory include her husband, Henry Laird; five sons, Gary Laird and wife, Tina, Johnny Laird and wife, Theresa, Michael Laird and fiancee, Lisa, Pat Laird and wife, Denise, and Cephus Laird and wife, Ashley; one adopted grandson, Shelton Laird; one daughter, Debbie Laird Pelt and husband, Billy; twenty-five grandchildren; and thirty-seven great grandchildren.
Hazel is preceded in death by her parents, Cephus and Ida Manuel; two brothers, Severn and Winston Manuel; and one grandson.
Her grandsons will be honored to serve as her pallbearers-Marcus Willis, Cody, P.J., Severn, Randall and Gary Laird. Honorary pallbearers are-Jessie Murry, John Slayton and Brent Gaskin.
