Obituary

Oakdale-Funeral services for Harry Holman Horton, Jr., 87, will be held at 3 p.m. on Thursday, August 4, 2022 at Trinity Baptist Church in Oakdale. Rev. Ted White will officiate. Burial will follow at Oakhill Cemetery under the direction of Ardoin/Allen Parish Funeral Homes.

The family will receive visitors at Trinity Baptist Church on Thursday, August 4, 2022 from 1 p.m. until time of service.

Bro. Harry served as Pastor, Minister of Music and Education for churches in FL, MS and LA. He traveled with many men's group and choirs including Centenary College. He also traveled to the mission field of Jamaica. Bro. Harry served in many offices for Trinity Baptist Church and along with his loving wife, Jeanette, made a strong bond and lasting friendships with the members of the church. He had an extensive home library and in his mid-60's took computer classes so that he would be able to fulfill his job as an online minister with a worldwide Bible question and answer forum where he was able to use his Master's Degree in Education/ Theology. He enjoyed planting flowers and being the "fun PawPaw" to his grandchildren and their friends. He was a volunteer for the Elizabeth Fire Department and loved helping others. He enjoyed fishing and loved learning about everything. Bro. Harry will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Those left to cherish Harry's memory include his loving wife of 32 years, Jeanette Buxton Horton; three sons, Timothy Horton and wife, Melissa, of Leesburg, FL, David Simmons and wife, Candy, of Deridder and Wally Simmons of Elizabeth; two daughters, Angela Eddins of Eustis, FL and Lori Tyson and husband, Terry, of Lake Cherokee in Henderson, TX; as well as a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren with special care given by Hailey Walker and Terrance Walker.

Bro. Harry was preceded in death by his parents, Harry & Ruth Horton; two sons, Holman Todd Horton and Charles Simmons; and sister, Marilyn Beeson.
