Greg’s family will receive friends and visitors at Glenmora Baptist Church on Saturday, May 16, 2026, from 12 o’clock noon until time of service. All of Greg’s arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Ardoin/Allen Parish Funeral Home of Oakdale.
Gregory Brent Odom, age 73, of Glenmora, Louisiana, passed into the presence of his Lord and Savior on Saturday, May 2, 2026, surrounded by his loved ones. He was born Monday, December 22, 1952, in Alexandria, Louisiana, to the union of Dorothy McDonald and Lucius Odom. Greg graduated from Bolton High School in 1970 and went on to attend Louisiana College. He was employed by W.E. McDonald and Son for many years, where he remained until his retirement in 2024. He served his community as an alderman for the Town of Glenmora for 24 years. Greg also served as Dean of the American Guild of Organist, Central Louisiana District in the 1990’s.
A man of deep faith, Greg devoutly served the Lord for over 50 years as a pianist and organist at Glenmora Baptist Church. Gifted with remarkable musical talent, he was truly a master of his craft. Not only did he play, but he also invested in others by teaching many to play, generously sharing the gift God had given him. Greg was known as a quiet and kind man, a faithful servant, and someone with a subtle, dry sense of humor that those closest to him came to love. He was also well known for his delicious smoked brisket, something family and friends always looked forward to. After gatherings at his home, Greg could often be found washing dishes—perhaps his gentle way of signaling that the evening had come to a close. Though he will be deeply missed by many, his family finds comfort and joy in knowing he is now in the presence of his Lord and Savior.
Those left to cherish Greg's memory include his devoted wife of nearly 48 years, Sondra Odom; his son, Gregory Odom II (Grady) of Alexandria, La; his daughter, Heather Odom of Round Rock, Tx; with whom he shared a special bond as birthday buddies; and his beloved grandchildren, Sydney, Ethan, Cameron, Madeline, Izzy, Brooks, and Jack, who lovingly knew him as “Peepaw” and “Daddy Greg.” Sister, Judy Fuller of Kinder, La.
Greg was preceded in death by his parents, Dorothy McDonald and Lucius Odom.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Compassionate Care for the loving and attentive care they provided to Greg. Your kindness and compassion during this time will never be forgotten.
Pallbearers will be Ethan Nguyen, Cameron Nguyen, Grice McDonald, Jamey McDonald, Cody Rikard, and Jim Mabrey. Honorary Pallbearers will be Brooks Odom, Jack Odom, Richard Bushnell, Bobby Johnson, and Varnel Stanley.
In lieu of flowers, family requests donations be made to Glenmora Baptist Church.
Condolences and expressions of Sympathy may be shared with Greg’s family at www.ardoinfuneralhome.com or on Facebook-Ardoin/Allen Parish Funeral Homes.
