Elton-Funeral service for Gladys Babovec, 97, will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, September 7, 2017 at St. Paul Catholic Church. Rev. Jose Vattakunnel will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Paul Cemetery under the direction of Ardoin/Allen Parish Funeral Home of Elton.
The family will receive visitors at Ardoin/Allen Parish Funeral Home of Elton from 4-8 p.m. September 6, 2017 with the Holy Rosary at 5 p.m. Visitation will resume at the funeral home on Thursday morning from 8 a.m. until time of service.
Gladys was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great great grandmother, and sister. She was a retired teacher of Elton High School where she taught for more than twenty six years. Gladys was a lifelong resident of Elton. She served our country in the United States Army during World War II where she later met her husband. Gladys was a devoted wife to her husband, Jerry, for fifty five years until his passing in 2000. She enjoyed gardening and sewing every chance she got. Gladys was an active member in the American Legion and in her church. She was a woman of strong faith and a member of the Ladies Alter Society. Gladys will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Those left to cherish Gladys' memory include her three daughters, Cecilia Dore and husband, Rodney, of Arnaudville, La, Francis Lopez and husband, Manuel, of Orange, Tx, and Mary Phelps of Lake Charles, La; one sister, Evelyn Helbach of Slidell, LA; 13 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and 5 great great grandchildren.
Gladys is preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Cecilia Buller; spouse, Jerry Babovec; two brothers, Albert Buller and Earl Buller.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested that donations be made to St. Paul Catholic Church or a charity of your choice.
