Obituary

Oakdale-A Mass of Christian Burial for Gerald Harrington, 79, will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, January 8, 2022 at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church. Rev. Fr. Jose Vattakunnel will officiate. Burial will follow at Deshotel Cemetery under the direction of Ardoin/Allen Parish Funeral Homes.

The family will receive visitors at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church on Saturday, January 8, 2022 from 9 a.m. until time of service with the Holy Rosary being recited at 10 a.m.

Gerald was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and brother. He and Elaine were married for sixty-one years as of December 24, 2021 and from this marriage they had four daughters. He served as the Allen Parish Clerk of Court for twenty-five years. Gerald was always dedicated to the people of Allen parish, in addition to his family. He loved people and was willing to help anyone in need. He was a dedicated fan of the Oakdale Warriors sports teams. Gerald served as the Allen parish 4-H president, and was a member of many things including: the Chamber of Commerce, South Oakdale water board, Sacred Heart's financial counsel, Knights of Columbus and always served his church in any way he could. He served in the United States Air Force as an air traffic controller for four years. He was a member of the American Legion, as well as Veterans of Foreign Wars. Above all, Gerald loved his family and was most dedicated to them. He found the most joy in spending time with his daughters, sons-in-laws, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He loved and served God and taught his family the same values. Gerald will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Those left to cherish Gerald's memory include his wife, Elaine Harrington; four daughters, Jennifer Hano (Brian), Lisa Dauzat (Mark), Leslie Leblanc (Joey) and Mary Longino "Junior" (Jason); two brothers, Mike and Gerald Patureau; three sisters, Vivian Jimmerson, Loweretta Crim, Bobbie Tatum (Mike); sixteen grandchildren, Keith Hano (Nicolynn), Jeramey Hano, Clay Hano (Gabby), Natalie Hano (Jacob), Justin Dauzat (Ashley), Katherine Leblanc (Zack), Alyssa Bijeaux (Chase), Jacob Harrington, Nicolas Leblanc, Jude Brabham, Joel Brabham, Charlie Strother, Seth Longino, Gerald Strother, Molly Longino and Noah Longino; and fourteen great grandchildren, Peyton Howell, Jaxon Hano, Jenson Hano, Jameson Hano, Promise Dauzat, Evee Dauzat, Dani Dauzat, Lydia Dauzat, Kaden Willis, Adalyn Bijeaux, Audrey Bijeaux, Carson Deavers, Brooke Deavers and Elliot Deavers.

Gerald is preceded in death by his parents, JC and Geraldine Harrington and Lucille Ivy Stewart; grandparents who raised him as their own, Florida Virginia and James Ivy; and three brothers, Craig Harrington, Kent Patureau and Elmo Patureau (Pat).

Pallbearers honored to serve are Keith Hano, Jeramey Hano, Clay Hano, Jacob Harrington, Jude Brabham, Charlie Strother, Seth Longino and Gerald Strother. Honrary pallbearers will be Joel Brabham and Justin Dauzat.

The family would like to say a special thanks to Brighton Bridge Hospice for all of their love, care and compassion shown. Also a thanks to the following ladies for all of their care, Deann Chamberlain, Makala Swinnea, Alta Reeves and Paula McGee.
