Geneva was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was a lifelong devout catholic and was very proud of her catholic heritage. Geneva was a devoted wife to her first husband, Julius Marcantel, for twenty-three years until his passing in January 1980. She later married her second husband, Charles Richard, and has been a devoted wife to him for the past forty years. She was a beautician, housewife and also worked as an activity director at the Kinder Nursing Home. After moving to Lafayette, she then began working at the Greenhouse Senior Center as an activity director. She loved to help others enjoy life just as she enjoyed hers. Geneva loved to sew; making clothes for herself, her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Those left to cherish Geneva's memory include her husband, Charles J. Richard of Lafayette; one son, Julian Marcantel and wife, Karen, of Oberlin; three daughters, Regina Burnitt and husband, Donald, of Kinder, Shelly Underwood and husband, Joe, of Lake Charles, and Karla Depew and husband, David, of Carencro; two step-sons, Gary Richard and wife, Tekila, of Spring, TX and Michael Richard and wife, Stephanie, of Abbeville; two step-daughters, Terry Demette of Lafayette and Jackey Richard of New Iberia; nine grandchildren, Brandy, Kevin, Amanda, Aaron, Megan, Trey, Sarah, Logan and Ava; and nine great grandchildren.

Geneva is preceded in death by her parents, Earl Monroe Smith and Aline Hebert Smith; her first husband, Julius Marcantel; two brothers, Henry and Harold Smith; and three sisters, Marie Arceneaux, Ida Autin and Lerline Vincent.
