Frieda was born in Welsh, LA on March 15, 1934, to the union of Benneth and Clemus Morgan and was a native of Hathaway, LA, until her father obtained a job at Texas City Plant in Port Arthur, TX. While residing in Port Arthur, TX, she attended Franklin Jr. High and Jefferson High School. During the Korean Conflict, Frieda would marry her childhood sweetheart, Jesse Norman Shuff, Sgt. First Class of the United States Army. Frieda would then work to obtain her G.E.D. under a high school diploma program, obtain a business and secretarial course certification, and finally complete a cosmetology certification course that allowed her to open her own beauty shop called "The Lady Madonna" that she operated in Elton for over 30 years. Later in Frieda's life, in her mid 40's, she would obtain a license as a Licensed Practical Nurse, where she worked for Jennings American Legion Hospital while still maintaining her beauty salon in Elton. Frieda was a lifelong member of St. Paul's Catholic Church in Elton where she was very active in serving her Savior. Frieda was called as a young child to serve significantly within the Catholic Church. She was asked by Fr. William Frantzen to be a first-grade Catechist and then was moved to second grade to help students prepare for their first penance and Holy Eucharist. Frieda would then complete classes with the Dominican Sisters of New Orleans, and then went on to attend a Catholic Charismatic Conference with Fr. Ralph Doria where she received her baptism of the Holy Spirit. Under this inspiration to serve the Lord at a greater height, Frieda was a Mass lector, trained Evangelist, served as Secretary for the St. Paul's Council, and was a member of the Charismatic Renewal Board. She worked in prison ministry for ten years, was a member of the Catholic television program, "Share the Word", and became a consecrated widow after her husband of 58 years, Jesse, passed away. Frieda was a woman of strong faith and very proud of her Catholic heritage. Attending daily Mass and receiving communion were a "treat". Frieda, affectionally called, FeFe, Fred, Maw, Maw Maw Fred or Maw Maw by niece's nephews, and neighborhood children, loved people, entertaining, and cooking for her family. Her favorite past times included tending to the "Truck Patch" with her husband Jesse while he was living, writing poetry, reading, doing embroidery, and giving Christian talks by sharing her life experiences. Her talks were never "sugar coated" and would include the good and the bad of life. Frieda loved to feed and watch her birds, squirrels, and rabbits off her back patio while having her afternoon coffee, but most of all she loved and adored her family. Frieda was a loving and caring person, knew no strangers, and was always full of compassion. She will be forever missed, never forgotten, and unconditionally loved by all who knew her.
Those left to cherish Frieda's memory include one daughter, Tammy Fruge and husband Gene of Elton, LA, three sons, Benneth Shuff of Elton, LA, Kevin Shuff of Ragley, LA, and Brent "Tony" Shuff and wife Carol of Calhoun, LA; seventeen grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends that were just like family to her.
Frieda is preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Shuff Sr.; one son, Jesse Shuff Jr.; two sisters, Audrey Flounoy, and Zadie Morgan, and one brother, Benneth Morgan.
Frieda's family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the Jeff Davis Home Health Group, and Brighton Bridge Hospice for all their love, compassion and wonderful care while taking care of Frieda. God sent a special angel, Tanya Laughlin, to help on days the nurses couldn't come, and she was always available.
