Obituary

Frank Hammonds was born January 27, 1962, in Kinder, La., to Jane Alice Pitre Hammonds and George W. Hammonds, Jr. He spent the early part of his childhood in Kinder with his sisters, Robin Ruth Hammonds and Cathy Hammonds Boudreaux as well as his brother, Johnny Hammonds. Frank loved the countryside of Kinder, he was an avid hunter and fisherman and perceived Kinder as sort of the Garden of Eden.

Frank then moved with his mother and siblings to Baton Rouge where he later graduated from Belaire High School. He had returned to Kinder as frequently as possible to pursue his hobbies. Frank, along with many friends and cousins, Johnny, Stuart and Steven Pitre, spent many wonderful hours deer hunting and fishing and boating through so many of the waterways in the area and the gulf. Hunting and fishing invigorated him like nothing else

Frank's immediate family grew with the addition of stepsiblings….Paula Lyn Withers, James Michael Withers, Debra Kay Withers and Gary Wayne Withers. Not long afterwards, Frank's half sister Constance Jane Withers was born. Gary was the same age as Frank and accompanied him on many of his outdoor expeditions. They were bosom buddies.

After graduation from high school, Frank moved to Lake Charles and attended the four-year electrician program and became a journeyman electrician.

Frank had one son, Robert Allen Hammonds, whom he cherished.

He spent 25 years working at McNeese State University. He took joy in maintaining the facilities that were used to educate people and allow them the opportunity to better their lives.

Frank also loved his Doberman Pinscher named Bo. Bo was such a smart dog, and Frank was able to train him well. Frank loved all his dogs he had since childhood, but Bo was the one that really had his heart. He was sad when his health no longer allowed him to maintain a pet.

Debra Nielsen Chambers has been Frank's partner for most of his life. She was at his side through his tribulations with his injury at McNeese and was at his bedside when he passed away in Kinder Hospital on May 17, 2023.

There will be a memorial service held for Frank at Liberty Cemetery on May 31, 2023, at 11 a.m.  He wished to have his ashes scattered along the Calcasieu River in memory of his joyous times fishing there.

All arrangements have been entrusted to Ardoin/Allen Parish Funeral Homes.  Words of comfort may be extended to Frank's family at www.ardoinfuneralhomes.com or on Facebook-Ardoin/Allen Parish Funeral Homes.
