Kinder-Fay Nell Fontenot, longtime resident of Birmingham, Alabama went to be with the Lord on November 18, 2015 at the Kruse Village Nursing Home in Brenham, Texas. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Sunday, November 22, 2015 at Ardoin Funeral Home of Kinder. Rev. George Maronge will officiate. Burial will follow at Kinder McRill Cemetery under the direction of Ardoin Funeral Home.
The family will receive visitors at Ardoin Funeral Home of Kinder on Sunday, November 22, 2015 from 10 a.m. until time of service.
Fay Fontenot was born on October 5, 1931 to the late Bessie and Ancel Barker in Birch River, West Virginia. She graduated from Nicholas County High School in 1949. Fay attended Morris Harvey Business College in Charleston, West Virginia from 1949-1951, graduated from Miami Bible Institute in 1961, received a Bachelor of Religious education from Southeastern Bible College in 1963, and received a Bachelor of Arts from Birmingham-Southern College in 1965. She earned her Master of Arts from the Graduate School of West Virginia University in 1971 and a Master of Education from Vanderbilt University. She taught in the Birmingham School District until she retired in 1993. Fay married Edward Lee Hendricks in 1951; Edward was killed in action in the Korean War in 1952. Their son, Edward Lee Hendricks, was born a few months after Edward Sr. was buried. In 1983, Fay married I.J. Fontenot, native of Edna, LA, and she inherited a large family that welcomed her with sons, daughters and grandchildren to come. I.J. passed away in 2011.
Fay is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Edward and JoLynn Hendricks; one sister, Elanora (Harry) Thomas; one step-son, Jamie (Pama) Fontenot; three step-daughters, Linda (Bill) Parker, Julie (Rene') Drouin, and Joyce (Daryl) Rapp; and many grandchildren and great grandchildren that she loved.
