Eva Buller Laughlin, 100, of Elton, Louisiana was called into the arms of the Lord in the early morning of March 20, 2021. As a young woman, Eva grew up like most families at the time, rich on "faith" but little else. Times were hard. To help the family make ends meet, she picked cotton, took in clothes to wash, and later worked as a receptionist in the local doctor's office before getting married. Eventually, she became well-known for her sewing; whether it was a simple hem on a pair of pants, a prom dress for an eager young teen, or a full wedding dress and dresses for all the bridesmaids. So many people through the years have stood on her kitchen chair to get their measurements taken. In the 1980's she took a break from sewing for a living to head up the "Elderly Nutrition Program" for the Town of Elton. She was very proud of the fact that the program provided so many free meals for the elderly citizens of her town. Eva spent the entirety of her 100 years as a devoted member of St. Paul Catholic Church in Elton and she also served as a member of Ladies Altar Society. During this time, she has attended hundreds of church events including Bingo's, Bazar's, and bake sales. She not only donated goods but was often seen helping during the events as well. Over the years, she became well-known in the church for the many beautiful quilts she made and donated on behalf of the church. She was born the fourth of six children to Oscar and Dorcina Buller in December of 1920. In June of 1937, she was married to Hines Laughlin. Together they raised two sons Milton (Mouton) Laughlin and Robert (Stanley) Laughlin. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Mrs. Laughlin is survived by her son, Milton Laughlin of Elton, LA; her five grandchildren, Robert (Kassi) Laughlin of Oakdale, CA, Johnny (Julie) Laughlin of Elton, LA, Renee (Darren) Guillory of Dry Creek, LA, Bridgette (Gater) Baker of Morehead City, NC and Juanita (Jimbo) Sanders of Dry Creek, LA; fifteen great grandchildren; ten great-great grandchildren and a large number of nieces and nephews.
Eva is preceded in death by her husband of forty-four years, Hines Laughlin; her parents, Oscar and Dorcina Buller; three sisters, Edna Walters, Dora Lafleur, and Ena Savoy; two brothers, J.D. and Amos Buller; one son, Stanley Laughlin; and two young daughters, Marilyn and Marie Laughlin.
