Oakdale-Celebration of Life services honoring Eugene "Gene" Edwin Miller Jr., 64, will be held at 7 o'clock p.m. on Thursday evening, November 6, 2025, at Ardoin/Allen Parish Funeral Home of Oakdale. Pastor Ryan Bond will officiate. Gene will be laid to rest with graveside services at 2 o'clock p.m. on Friday afternoon, November 7, 2025, at Evergreen Cemetery in Crockett, TX.

Gene's family will receive friends and visitors at Ardoin/Allen Parish Funeral Home of Oakdale on Thursday afternoon, November 6, 2025, from 4-9 o'clock p.m. All of Gene's arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Ardoin/Allen Parish Funeral Home of Oakdale.

Gene was born in Batesville, Arkansas on December 29, 1960, to the union of Gene and Virginia Miller. His family settled in Crockett, Texas in 1961 which became home to him. Throughout the years he worked as a Certified Parts Manager, mechanic, carpenter, and construction worker. He took great pride in working for Pyramid Construction as a superintendent where he was instrumental in building the Animal Resource Center at the University of Texas. Prior to his retirement he worked for Coushatta Casino Resort. Gene had an abundant love for animals especially dogs. Gene will be forever missed and unconditionally loved by all who knew him.

Those left to cherish Gene's memory include his wife Leatrus Miller; his son, PJ Land and wife Bonnie, of Kosciusko, MS; one grandson, Ben Land, of Starkville, MS; other family Members, Jace Hebert and Addie Heflin, and  Aldyn, Cooper, Avylee, and Ryker Hebert, all of Oakdale, LA; Della and Brent Fontenot and WJ and Martha Miller of Pine Prairie, LA; a host of extended family members and friends, Minnette and Lori Fontenot, of Lafayette, LA, Tracie and Keith Fontenot of The Woodlands, TX, Todd and Bobbie Fontenot, of Baton Rouge, LA, Robbie and April Fontenot, of Pine Prairie, LA; his great nephews Elliott and Andrew Fontenot, of Lafayette, LA, He cherished the name "Uncle" Gene, and his special friend Jennifer Perkins, who thought he could fix anything and nicknamed him MacGyver.

Gene is preceded in death by his parents Eugene "Gene" and Virginia Miller.

In lieu of flowers please donate to the Oakdale Animal Shelter in Gene's memory, or donations can also be made to Leatrus Miller at 212 Thom St., Oakdale, La. 71463. All donations will be given to the shelter.
