Obituary

Oberlin-A Mass of Christian Burial honoring Etheline M. Baker, 92, will be held at 10 o'clock a.m. on Saturday, April 20, 2024, at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in Oberlin. Rev. Fr. Pradeep Gali will officiate. Etheline will be laid to rest at Manuel Cemetery in Oberlin immediately following her services.

Etheline's family will receive friends and visitors at Ardoin/Allen Parish Funeral Home of Oberlin on Friday evening, April 19, 2024, from 6-8 o'clock p.m. with the Holy Rosary being prayed at 7 o'clock p.m. Etheline's visitation will resume at Ardoin/Allen Parish Funeral Home of Oberlin on Saturday morning, April 20, 2024, from 8 o'clock a.m. until time of service. All of Etheline's arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Ardoin/Allen Parish Funeral Home of Oberlin.

Etheline affectionately called "Yen" by all who knew her was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She was a faithful and devoted wife to her husband James "Jim" Baker for 50 plus years until his passing in 2005. She was a faithful member of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in Oberlin where she attended church regularly.  Etheline was a "people person" who loved to take care of others. She loved and adored her family and cherished every memory she made with them. She loved to travel all over the country and sight-seeing. She was very selfless and always giving of her time. Etheline was a great cook and enjoyed cooking for her family. She loved to laugh and have a great time. Etheline will be forever missed and unconditionally loved by all who knew her.

Those left to cherish Etheline's memory include one son, Timothy Manuel of Oberlin, LA; one brother, Gilbert "Junior" Manuel of Baton Rouge, LA, one sister, Letha Sommers of Jacksonville, FL; seven grandchildren, three great grandchildren; and a host of numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Etheline is preceded in death by her parents, Gilbert, and Levy Manuel; and her husband James "Jim" Baker; five brothers, and two sisters.
