Oberlin-Funeral service for Ethel J. Smith, 77, will be held at Oakdale Church of Christ at 11 a.m. on August 22, 2013. Bro. Danny Broussard will officiate. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery under the direction of Allen Parish Funeral Home-Oberlin Chapel.
The family will receive visitors at Allen Parish Funeral Home-Oberlin Chapel on Wednesday evening from 7-9 p.m. On Thursday morning, a visitation will be held at the Oakdale Church of Christ from 9 a.m. until the time of service.
Ethel was a lifelong member of Oakdale Church of Christ. She worked as a bookkeeper at Oakdale Motors for over 50 years. She was known for her great sense of humor. She also enjoyed quilting, especially with the "Stitch and Chatter Class" at her church. She loved being with her co-workers and friends and family. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Survivors include her two brothers, Norris Smith and wife, Betty of Oakdale and Burel Smith and wife, Shirley of Moss Bluff; one sister, Arlie Smith of Oakdale; four nieces, Sara Byrd, Ginger Kumler, Carla Doucet and Nikole Jenkins; one nephew, Michael Ray Smith; and numerous great nieces and nephews.
Ethel is preceded in death by her parents, Fletta and Beuford Smith.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Oakdale Church of Christ in Ethel's memory.
