Emma Jean Mouton Wharton was a lifetime resident of West Monroe. She may be remembered by most as she and her husband Rodney Mouton owned MOUTON'S FAMILY SHOE STORE on Trenton St. in West Monroe during the 1940's & 1950's. Emma Jean moved to Austin, TX to live near her sisters after "Mouton" passed away. For 35 years Mrs. Wharton owned Jean's Electrolysis, which she established in 1961. After retiring from 25 years of service, her daughter owned the business until 1996.
Mrs. Wharton age 89 passed away Friday, January 29, 2009 in Kinder, LA due to cancer. She recently moved to Kinder because of her passion for the casino.
She is survived by her only child, Wanda Lou Harris & husband Don of Austin, TX; two grandsons, Shane Harris & wife Sandy, and Slade Harris all of Elgin, TX; three great grandsons, Cade Harris & Cory Harris all of Elgin, TX, Dalton Harris of Austin, TX.
Mrs. Wharton is preceded in death by her husband, Clofus Luster Wharton.
Graveside service will be held Sunday, February 1, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. in Cook-Walden Cemetery in Austin, TX.
