Obituary

    Oakdale-Funeral services honoring Ellavon Berzas Laird, 81, will be held at 11 o’clock am on Tuesday morning, May 12, 2026, at Ardoin/Allen Parish Funeral Home of Oakdale. Rev. Dean Gunter will officiate. Ellavon’s family will host a private burial following her services.

    Ellavon’s family will receive friends and visitors at Ardoin/Allen Parish Funeral Home of Oakdale on Monday evening, May 11, 2026, from 5- 9 o’clock p.m. with a Celebration of Life service, officiated by Pastor Douglas Walling Sr., beginning at 7 o’clock p.m. Ellavon’s visitation will resume at Ardoin/Allen Parish Funeral Home of Oakdale on Tuesday morning, May 12, 2026, from 9 o’clock a.m. until time of service. All of Ellavon’s arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Ardoin/Allen Parish Funeral Home of Oakdale.

    It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Ellavon Berzas Laird of Oakdale, LA who gained her wings on Thursday, May 7, 2026, with her family by her side. She was 81 years old. She was born July 30, 1944, in Ville Platte, LA. Ellavon married the love of her life, A.D. Laird, on August 31, 1961. They were married for 52 years. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, sister-in-law, and friend. She was selfless, kind, generous and supportive to those she loved.

    Ellavon was strong in her faith and always put family first. She was proud of her Cajun heritage and enjoyed sharing many traditions she held so dear. She enjoyed crocheting, traveling, cooking, gardening, studying her bible and spending time with family. She is a member of St. Matthew Baptist Church in Oakdale and loved her church family dearly. Ellavon was a florist for many years and worked at Flowers by Norman before working at Coushatta Casino Resort for ten years prior to her retirement.

    Those left to cherish Ellavon’s memory include her sons Terry D. Laird, and wife Michele of Pasadena, Texas, John F. Laird, wife Terri Lynn of Oakdale, LA, Johnny R. Laird, wife Theresa of Oakdale, LA; daughter, Norma L. Mills, husband Charles of Pasadena, Texas; grandchildren Montez Hodges of Sugartown, LA, Cody Laird of Oakdale, LA, Erin Doyle of Marshall, Texas and Colton Mills of Tomball, Texas; Grandchildren McKenzi, Cole, Abby, Bella and Jaise; great, great grandchildren Lincoln & Casie; Brother, Larry Berzas of Montgomery, LA; Sister-in-Law, Gwendolyn Barzar; Brothers-in-Law, Bobby Laird and Henry Laird; many nieces, nephews as well as her Fur Baby, Foxie.

    Ellavon is preceded in death by husband A.D. Laird; her parents Andison & Laura Berzas, brother Shirley Barzar; Sister Etheline Berzas Pitre; brothers-in-law Roland Pitre, Carl Willis, W.C. Laird; sisters-in-law Chitako Sato Berzas, Isabelle Laird, Sally Willis, Hazel Laird, and Libby Laird.

    The family would like to express their most sincere gratitude to everyone who helped take excellent care of their mother, including Paula Swinnea, Tiffany McDaniel, and Millie Romero. They would also like to extend their gratitude and appreciation for the doctors, nurses, and staff at Christus St. Francis Cabrini hospital in Alexandria, LA.

    In lieu of flowers, suggested donations may be made to the American Heart Association, Breast Cancer Awareness, or the charity of your choice.
