Oberlin-Funeral service for Dreau Granger, age 83, will be held on Wednesday, May 15, 2013 at 2pm in St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church of Oberlin. Father Felix Anyikwa will officiate. Burial will follow in Kinder McRill Cemetery under the direction of Allen Parish Funeral Home of Oberlin.
The family will receive visitors at Allen Parish Funeral Home-Oberlin Chapel beginning Tuesday, May 14,2013 from 3-9pm. A prayer service will be held at 6:30pm followed by a rosary at 7pm.Visitation will continue on Wednesday, May 15, 2013 from 8am until time of service.
Dreau was born in Soileau, La. He was a member of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church and St. Philip Neri Catholic Church. He was also a Grand Knight for The Knights of Columbus and a lector and usher for St. Philip Neri Catholic Church of Kinder. He was an American Legion Member and served our country in the United States Navy. After working as a barber, he became an insurance agent for Ardoin's Funeral Home and then Farm Bureau Insurance. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and also enjoyed cooking, and entertaining friends and family.
Survivors include his wife, Vergie L. Granger of Oberlin; three daughters, Mariah Granger, Becky Smith, Joanie Granger all of Kinder; two sisters, Helen Lofton of Oberlin and Shirley Conner of Lake Charles; five step-sons, Ricky, Marvin, Gregory, Patrick and Weston Monceaux all of Oberlin; one step-daughter Sheryl Banks of Oberlin; 27 grandchildren, Brad and Justin Crochet, Garet, Trent, Samantha, Angel, and Jaxon Hall, Kris Smith, Austin and Erin Rusca, and Drew Riley; Brandon, Jacelyn, Danille, Jason, Eric, Justin, Shea, Marcus, Gregory, Dustin, Lance, Kara, Kory, Brooke, Wes, and John Jerald.
His first wife, Lorraine Cronan; infant son, Peter Granger; two daughters, Frances and Kathy Granger; and his grandson, Jeremy Hall, precede Dreau in death.
Pallbearers for the service will be Dustin, Corey, Garet, Trent, Justin, Austin, and Drew.
