Dovie’s family will receive friends and visitors at Ardoin/Allen Parish Funeral Home of Oakdale on Friday morning, July 17, 2026, from 10 a.m. until time of service. All of Dovie’s arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Ardoin/Allen Parish Funeral Home of Oakdale.

Dovie Irene Buxton was a loving wife, mother, daughter, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She always told her children that she was born in an old house in Oakdale, LA. weighing a little over two pounds and they fit her in a shoe box. She told them stories of the cold snowy winters in Oklahoma when her husband worked in the oilfield. Dovie was the most humble, non-judgmental person, that was always a peace maker and loved everyone. She loved God, her family, and especially her grandchildren- her favorite title was “Maw Maw”.

Dovie enjoyed porch sitting, bird watching, was an avid reader, and always paid close attention to the weather forecasts. Dovie believed nature and sunlight was good for the soul. She started her days by reading her bible, enjoying a hot cup of Community coffee, and a Marlboro Red. Dovie loved cooking for her family, she was known for her rice and gravy and homemade biscuits, and her personal treat was a small glass bottle of Coca Cola. She also loved her church family at St. Missionary Baptist Church in Oakdale, LA.

Dovie’s strength was remarkable, to know her was to love her. She was our biggest blessing. She made sure her family knew they were loved and cherished everyday of their lives up until the very end. Dovie will be forever missed and unconditionally loved by those who knew her.

Those left to cherish Dovie’s memory include her brothers and sisters, two sons, Chad Buxton (wife Lorinda), and Keith Buxton (wife Shayna); one daughter, Sonya Cloud; nine grandchildren, Lilly Buxton, Briar Buxton, Gus Buxton, Coby Buxton (Madeline), Kaily Buxton, Lacey Livingston, T.J. Buxton, Thad Buxton, and Tiffany Buxton; four great grandchildren, Kinslee Monk, Gunner Henderson, Jade Livingston, and Karmyn Odom; one great-great grandchild, Kollyns Giles; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.

Dovie is preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Thelma Rollins; her husband, Henry “Mann” Eddie Buxton Jr.; three brothers, Floyd Rollins Jr., Tony Rollins, and James Rollins; four sisters, Betty Rollins, Delores Rollins, Callie Oller, and Wanda Stevens.
