Douglas was a great husband, father, and pawpaw. He was a hard worker and very talented. Throughout his life he wore many hats. He helped his dad in the watermelon field, worked as a carpenter and in the logging industry, before finally finding his calling in the oil field. Devoting thirty plus years to his career, he started as a floor hand, derek hand, working his way to a tool pusher, then to rig supervisor, he also was a safety consultant. After retirement he worked for Triad Electric organizing tools where he acquired the name "Pops".

Douglas was a long-time member of the Pentecostals of Mittie where he was proud to serve on the church board and in many ministries. He led song services, taught Sunday school, served on the youth committee, and assumed many other roles.

Douglas enjoyed many hobbies which included gardening, making jelly, whittling wood, making his own sausage, working on small engines, and became quite the craftsman of "knife making".

He loved talking and meeting new people and enjoyed cooking.  He was super interesting to talk to and a deep thinker.  Douglas was most proud of his family and especially his grandchildren. Building his home was one of his favorite accomplishments.

Those left to cherish Douglas's memory include his wife, Reba Martin of Mittie, La.; Son, Bucket Martin and wife Jerris of Longville, La.; two daughters, Candace Lester and husband Shane of Delhi, La., and Celeste Martin and Mollie of Mittie, La.; three brothers, Bruce Martin and wife Jerry Ann of Deridder, La., Eddie Martin and wife Mitzi of Deridder, La., and Ogal "Tink" Young and wife Kathy of Mittie, La.; two sisters, Susan Townson and husband Gary of Grant, La. and Judy Young and Doodle of Fork La.; grandchildren, Scarlett Stansbury and husband Bryan, Damon, Charity, and Logan Martin, and Sierra and Gentry Lester ; great grandchild, Everly Stansbury; and a host of extended family members and friends.
