Obituary

Kinder-Dorothy Mayfield, 96, entered her eternal heavenly home on December 11, 2021. She was born November 27, 1925 and grew up in Kinder, LA.

After high school graduation, Dorothy attended Moody Bible College in Chicago, Illinois, and then relocated to Minneapolis, MN for several years. She returned to Lake Charles and worked as a secretary to A.C. Kirkpatrick, Calcasieu Parish Tax Assessor, until her retirement. Lake Charles remained Dorothy's home until Hurricane Laura sent her relocating back to the place of her birth, Kinder.

Dorothy loved the Lord and the beauty of nature he provided us. She loved combing beaches for treasures of the sea and loved to find wood for crafting birdhouses and benches. Many of these treasures were displayed in her home. Her great-great nephews admired her displays and remarked that Aunt Dot was a very interesting person. She was also kind, thoughtful and generous.

Dorothy is survived by her sister, Mary Manuel of Kinder, her brother, Norman Johnson, Jr. of Conroe, TX and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Norman and Lena Johnson, brothers, Glen, R.G., and Earl Mayfield, and one sister, Ruby Creswell.

Visitation will be held at 10AM Thursday, Dec. 23 rd in Ardoin/Allen Parish Funeral Home of Kinder followed by a private family service, to be officiated by Pastor Don Barrett at 11AM. Burial will be in Carter Memorial Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Kinder Bible Church or Camp Pearl in Reeves, LA.
