Obituary

Oakdale-A celebration of life service for Donald Harper Sr. 86, will be held on Sunday, September 3, 2023, at 2 o'clock p.m. at Trinity Baptist Church in Oakdale. Rev. Greg Strother and Rev. Stan Statum will officiate. Donald will be peacefully laid to rest at Resthaven Cemetery immediately following his services.

Donald's family will receive visitors at Ardoin/Allen Parish Funeral Home of Oakdale on Saturday evening September 2, 2023, from 3 to 9 o'clock p.m. Visitation will resume on Sunday, September 3, 2023, at Trinity Baptist Church in Oakdale from 12 noon until time of service. All arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Ardoin/Allen Parish Funeral Home.

Donald was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He adored his family and dearly loved spending time with them. He especially loved his grandchildren and cherished every moment he spent with them. Donald was a devoted Christian and was a lifelong member of Trinity Baptist Church in Oakdale where he loved attending church. He created his own ministry, where he would hand out "red" half dollar coins. He conveyed that the "red" represented the blood of Christ. Donald loved to give these coins to everyone he met. In 1980, Donald established a washer and dryer repair service where he loved to help people with their needs. He got Mr. Chip Knowles to help him with his business so that someone would be able to keep his business going and continue to help anyone in need. Our dad Donald will be forever missed and unconditionally loved by all who knew him.

Those left to cherish Donald's memory include one son, Donald E. Harper Jr. and wife Sherry; two daughters Marilyn Welch and husband Billy, and Sharon Fontenot and husband Jerry; two sisters, Marie Hinkle, and Sherrie Cloud; six grandchildren, Heather Welch, Duston, Casey, and Corey Dauzat, Adam and Cody Fontenot, twelve great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Donald is preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Priscilla Harper; his wife, Betty Blocker Harper; one brother, Lenton Christian; two sisters, Joann Strother and Sandra Gordon; and one grandson, Dustin Fontenot.
