Oberlin-It is with heavy hearts the family of Donald Raymond Rider, 78, announce his passing on Friday, November 24, 2023, at a local care facility. A Mass of Christian Burial in honor of Donald will be held on Wednesday, November 29, 2023, at 11:30 a.m. at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in Oberlin. Rev. Fr. Jom Joseph will officiate. Donald will be laid to rest at Durio Cemetery in Oberlin immediately following his services.

Donald's family will receive friends and visitors at Ardoin/Allen Parish Funeral Home of Oberlin on Tuesday, November 28, 2023, from 4-9 o'clock p.m. with the Holy Rosary being prayed at 6 o'clock p.m. Donald's visitation will resume on Wednesday morning, November 29, 2023, from 8 o'clock a.m. until time of service. All of Donald's arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Ardoin/Allen Parish Funeral Home of Oberlin.

Donald was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend to all. He was a devoted husband to his wife Debbie for 8 years. He was man of strong faith and a faithful member of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in Oberlin where he attended church regularly.  He was a hardworking man all his life. He had to dismiss himself from grade school in the 8th grade to pick cotton to help provide for his family. Throughout the years many jobs would follow, and he ended his working career as a ground's keeper at Coushatta Casino Resort in Kinder where he enrolled in a program that allowed him to obtain his G.E.D. in his early 60's. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved to hunt and fish. He was also an avid gardener where grew loads of fresh vegetables for he and his family to enjoy. Donald will be forever missed and unconditionally loved by all who knew him.

Those left to cherish Donald's memory include his wife Debbie Rider of Oberlin, LA; two daughters, Bethany Rider Brown of Basile, LA, and Natalie Rider of Eunice, LA; two grandchildren, Gabriel Allen, and Claire Anne Brown of Basile, LA; two brothers, Russell "Potic" Rider and wife Sandy of Basile, LA, and Daniel "Danny" Rider and wife Linda of Kinder, LA; one sister, Emmaline "Sis" Albertelli of Basile, LA; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

Donald is preceded in death by his parents Eloi and Elvina Rider; one brother, Russell Paul Rider; two sisters, Jeanette Rider, and Mary Ann Rider Sattler.
