Oakdale-A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Donald George Boone, 78, at 2 p.m. on Monday, September 21, 2020 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.  Rev. Vijaya Peddoju and Deacon Brian Soileau will officiate. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery under the direction of Ardoin/Allen Parish Funeral Homes.

The family will receive visitors at Ardoin/Allen Parish Funeral Home, 311 Highway 1152, Oakdale, on Monday, September 21, 2020 from 9a.m. until 1 p.m.  At that time, family and friends will process to Sacred Heart Catholic Church for the recitation of the Holy Rosary followed by the funeral mass.

Donald, better known to his friends as "Bubba", was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend.  His strong tireless work ethic was one of a kind; providing for his family his entire life.  He was known as "Paw Paw" to his five grandchildren and nine great grandchildren who he ALWAYS made time for.  After retiring from United Gas Pipeline in 1990, Donald began working his trade as a "craftsman."  His work was not complete until it was perfect.  Some of his last work can be seen in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, where he was a devout parishioner.  He was a very proud paw paw.  He taught his grandchildren how to hunt, drive, plant a garden and shared his knowledge of woodworking and craftsmanship.  When he was not working, he loved cooking and enjoyed LSU football…sometimes!  Donald will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Those left to cherish Donald's memory include his wife of 59 years, Loretta Sonnier Boone of Oakdale; two daughters, Phyllis Wheat and husband, Bruce, of Oakdale, and Rhonda Garrett and husband, Robert, of Lake Charles; one brother, Gene Boone and wife, Cookie, of Oakdale; one sister, Tina Gray and husband, Danny, of Zachary; five grandchildren-Jerrod Wheat, Jeremy Wheat, Travis Wheat, Hailey Hennigan and Brad Whittington; and 9 great grandchildren.

Donald is preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Georgia Gilley Boone; one brother, Sonny Boone; and one sister, Joyce Cart.
