Deacon Frederick Joseph LaPoint, 80, of Reeves passed peacefully at 11:15 AM on Sunday, November 14, 2010 on the land he loved at the home of his daughter surrounded by family. Frederick was born on March 19, 1930 to Adonis and Marcelite Bertrand LaPoint in Crowley, La. He lived there until 1938 when the family moved to Soileau, La. He attended school in Oberlin until 1946 when the family settled in Reeves, La. as farmers.
While living in Soileau, he met Thelma LaFleur at opening night of the Golden Gate dance club in Oberlin. They were married November 27, 1948 and settled in Reeves on the family farm where they have resided for 61 years.
Frederick was a farmer and father of 11 children. Ordained in June 1981, Frederick was a Deacon for St. Phillip Neri Catholic Church for 29 years, a leader at the Prairie Rhonde Cursillo Center for 47 years, life long member of Knights of Columbus and owner of the Radio Shack in Kinder for 13 years.
Frederick is survived by wife, Thelma LaFleur LaPoint; six sons, Roderick LaPoint, Rodney LaPoint (Monica), Randy LaPoint (Sharon) all of Reeves and Ricky LaPoint of Iowa, LA; Ronald LaPoint (Rhonda) of Houston, TX; and Rolland (Tom) LaPoint of Moss Bluff; four daughters, Rita LaFargue (Wallace), Roxanne Butts (Wayne), both of Reeves, Rhonda Johnsurde (Jeff) of Indian Village and Mary LaPoint of Westlake, La.; two brothers, Clarence LaPoint of Kinder and Lemon LaPoint of Lake Charles; 31 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.
Preceeded in death by his parents Adonis and Marcellite LaPoint; sisters, Margie Dodd and Beulah Primeaux; brother, Emery LaPoint; child, Frederick Joseph LaPoint, Jr.; grand children, Derrick James Guillory and Elizabeth Lafargue.
Visitation will be Tuesday, November 16, 2010 from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m. in Ardoin Funeral Home of Kinder with a vigil at 6:30 p.m. with a Cursillo Rosary to follow. Visitation will continue on Wednesday in St. Philip Neri Catholic Church from 8 a.m. until time of service at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Liberty Cemetery in Elton.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in the form of Stifian or Mass at St. Philip Neri or Diocese of Lake Charles or Living Memorial Fund.
