Oberlin-Celebration of Life services for David L. "Popeye" Young, 71, will be held on Friday, December 29, 2023, at 2 o'clock p.m. at Cherry Grove Baptist Church in Mittie. Rev. Joshua Eubanks will officiate. David's family will host private inurnment services at a future date.

David's family will accept friends and visitors at Cherry Grove Baptist Church on Friday, December 29, 2023, from 9 o'clock a.m. until time of service. All of David's arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Ardoin/Allen Parish Funeral Home of Oberlin.

David was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He was a faithful and devoted husband to his wife Katherine for 47 years. David served our country in the United States Army for six years. He worked hard as a heavy equipment mechanic to provide for his family. David was an avid outdoorsman where he loved to hunt, and fish, but most importantly cook and barbecue. He loved and adored his family and cherished every moment that he spent with them. He loved dogs, especially his two poodles, Cayenne and Lil' Man. David was a one-of-a-kind individual. He was a kind and caring person and will be forever missed and unconditionally loved by all who knew him.

Those left to cherish David's memory include his wife, Katherine Langley Young of Oberlin; one son, Christopher Lavergne and wife Amanda of Eunice, LA; one daughter, Karry Lavergne of Crowley, LA; two brothers, "Mickey" Young of Evans, LA, and Kerry Young and wife Linda of Mittie, LA; two sisters, Dianne Gibson and husband Corbett of Mittie, LA, and Patricia "Patsy" McManus and husband Robert of Montgomery, LA; five grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

David is preceded in death by his parents Oscar and Bessie Young.
