Oberlin-A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Darrell Joseph Fontenot, 80, at 2 p.m., Thursday, August 11, 2016, at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church. Rev. Jacob Conner will officiate. Burial will follow in Oaklin Springs Cemetery under the direction of Ardoin Funeral Home.
The family will receive visitors at Allen Parish Funeral Home of Oberlin from 9-2 p.m., Thursday, August 11, 2016. The Holy Rosary will begin at 1 p.m.
Darrell was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He worked as a welder in Lake Charles until his retirement. He liked to read, garden, travel, and raising exotic birds. He also loved spending time with his grandchildren. Darrell served in the United States Navy for four years on the USS Yorktown. He was very patriotic and loved his country. He played the accordion and was very proud of his French culture. He was married to his wife, Patricia, for 55 years until her passing in 2014. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Those left to cherish Darrell's memory include his son, Eric Fontenot; daughter, Monica Warren and husband, Shane, all of Oberlin; and his sister, Jeanell Lalonde of Opelousas; 3 grandchildren, Dustin Chaumont and wife, Britney, Austin Warren, and Jordan Warren; and 2 great grandchildren, Landry Claire Chaumont and Finley Anne Chaumont.
Darrell is preceded in death by his parents, Amos and Mable Fontenot; and his wife, Patricia.
