Oakdale-Homegoing services honoring Charlotte Joann Dyer, 81, will be held at 1 o'clock p.m. on Wednesday afternoon, August 19, 2026, at the First United Pentecostal Church in Oakdale, LA. Rev. Bro. Tim Kelley will officiate. Joann will be laid to rest at Oakhill Cemetery in Oakdale, LA immediately following her services.

    Joann's family will receive friends and visitors at the First United Pentecostal Church in Oakdale, LA on Wednesday morning, August 19, 2026, from 10 o'clock a.m. until time of service. All of Joann's arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Ardoin/Allen Parish Funeral Home of Oakdale.

    Charlotte Joann Dyer affectionately called Joann, Ms. Joann, or sister Joann by those who knew her was born on Thursday, September 21, 1944, to the union of Grover and Annie Dyer and was one of nine children. Joann was a loving and caring person and was always willing to lend a helping hand. She made no pre-judgements of character, she helped anyone and everyone, in need or without need. As a young woman after high school, she worked as a butcher at the local Piggly Wiggly market. A lot of people knew her as the “bus lady”. She drove a school bus for over thirty years where she positively impacted the lives of hundreds of children. Always making sure to have snacks and “goodies” for “her babies” as she called them. Although Joann never had children of her own, she considered ALL the children that rode her bus though the years, her children, big or small. Many of her bus riders who have grown older, have made mention of how Ms. Joann had such a positive impact on their lives, and viewed her much like their own grandmother. She also cleaned offices at the Federal Prison for many years, but her biggest passion was the Funeral Industry where she worked for over 40 years. She loved to help people in their time of need and would go above and beyond to please the families she served. She assisted everyone with no expectation of a returned favor. Joann also had a passion for cleaning cars, in her younger years, many from local and a far, brought their vehicles to be washed by her. She could clean a vehicle spotlessly without a blemish or smear, inside and out. Many times, one may pass her house on a Saturday and see 8 or 10 cars lined up, all to be washed in only a way she could. Although a bit hardheaded, stern, and persistent at times, she did love to joke, “cut up”, and have a good time. Joann had many funny and quirky sayings that she will forever be remembered by such as “flat as a flitter” “a ticker tape” referring to the news flash line at the bottom of the news broadcast screen, “if you believe that, then stand on your eyelashes”,"pray, saints pray", “sweet on the lips and heavy on the hips” referring to sweets such as cakes, cookies, and candies, and countless other quotes, that have made people laugh throughout the years. She loved making food for her family and friends. Always willing to make a fresh coconut pie as she called it, or chocolate peanut clusters during the holidays, there were many times she cooked and brought food to people without even being asked. She also loved when it was her turn to feed her pastor or visiting pastors and their wives at her church. Joann was a woman of immense faith in Jesus Christ. She attended the First United Pentecostal Church in Oakdale for many years, where she served in countless ways, seen and unseen. She was very proud of her Pentecostal faith and was always a very Godly dressed woman. Even when she was “dressed down” she always looked nice and was very conservatively dressed. Her hair was her trademark, anyone who knew her, knew her hairstyle. Often you could see her hair before you saw her. You could certainly and almost instantly point her out at Buddy’s or Walmart from only knowing the way she wore her hair. She was proud of her hair and often referred to it as her glory. She was a prayer warrior and could rattle the heavens with a prayer. She would pray with every family she had the opportunity to serve at the funeral home. She prayed for her church and church members, her co-workers and their families, her friends, and her country. She was an inspiration to all and was a wonderful and faithful servant to the Kingdom of Heaven. She has finished her journey, earned her crown, and one could only imagine the rejoicing and worshiping she is doing at the throne of Christ. May the choir sing and the gates of Heaven burst open to receive such a wonderful, caring, selfless, and giving individual. Joann leaves behind a legacy of faith, love, hard work, and kindness to all who knew her. She will be forever missed and unconditionally loved and there will never be another Joann Dyer.

    Those left to cherish Joann's memory include one very special friend, Valarie Pender of Oakdale, LA; all of her Ardoin/Allen Parish Funeral Home co-workers; her church family; and a host of special nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.

    Joann is preceded in death her parents, Grover Cleveland and Annie Louida Dyer; six brothers, Roy, "D.C.", Raymond, Kyle, Glenn, and Wayne Dyer; and two sisters, Louise Dyer Fouquier, and Karen Dyer Fairchild.
