Brent was born on April 30, 1953 in Ville Platte, Louisiana to Mary Alice Vidrine and Clifford Fontenot, the youngest of three sons. Brent attended and graduated from Elizabeth High School, where he was a star player on the Elizabeth Bulldogs basketball team. When not on the basketball court, Brent was courting Brenda; the pair met at Dry Creek Baptist Camp, dated for three years, and then married shortly after his graduation.
For 35 years, Brent worked at Boise/PCA in Deridder, Louisiana as a machinist, making the one-hour commute to and from Oakdale every morning. He was skilled at his job and popular with his coworkers. Brent was an excellent provider for his family and a strong role model for his boys, Kirk and Justin. He was a proud, devoted father who was involved in every aspect of his sons' lives, raising them in church, attending t-ball practices and Boy Scout meetings, encouraging them in their studies, and taking the family on epic road trip vacations. The family looked forward to these road trips every summer, and Brent had a talent for showing his family the beauty and the history of America. He continued this road trip tradition with his grandchildren, Emily, Coen, and Adeline, to whom he was equally devoted, frequently traveling great distances to attend birthday parties and school events. Brent and his brothers, Billy and Ray, enjoyed getting together to hunt, fish, and laugh, and all three were avid fans of the LSU Tigers. Brent will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Those left to cherish Brent's memory include his wife, Brenda Gale Fontenot of Oakdale; two sons, Charles Kirk Fontenot of Bossier City, Louisiana and Justin Brent Fontenot and wife, Amy, of Laurel, Mississippi; three grandchildren, Emily Wilson and her husband, Cody, of Shreveport, Louisiana, Coen Fontenot and Adeline Fontenot of Laurel, Mississippi; two step-sisters, Shirley Renee Prejean and Verna Guillory; and two step brothers, Johnny Guillory and Leonard Guillory. Brent enjoyed a loving relationship with a large family, including eight nieces and nephews, their spouses, and their children. Brent was loved and respected by all of them.
Brent is preceded in death by his two older brothers, James William "Billy" Fontenot and Clifford Ray Fontenot; and one step-brother, Frank Guillory, Jr.
