Obituary

Elton-A Mass of Christian Burial for Charles Levy (C.L.) Daugereaux, 87, will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 1, 2021 at St. Paul Catholic Church. Rev. Jose Vattakunnel will officiate. Entombment will follow at the St. Paul Mausoleum under the direction of Ardoin/Allen Parish Funeral Homes.

The family will receive visitors at St. Paul Catholic Church on Saturday, May 1, 2021 from 9 a.m. until time of service.

C.L. was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, who was known to everyone in the family as "Pop." He knew at an early age that he wanted to follow in his dad's footsteps and be a farmer. C.L. farmed rice, soybeans, and crawfish. He was an accomplished farmer who was awarded "Highest Rice Yield" from Oxy Chemicals in 1976 and was named Jeff Davis Parish "Rice Farmer of the Year" in 1978. He worked with the Jeff Davis Rice Growers Association to help other farmers accomplish their dreams. He was a member of Farm Bureau and was president of the Grand Marias Drainage Board. He also was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, where he received the Bishop Service Medal and served on the Parish Council, the Pastoral Council, and the Building Committee.

C.L. loved to socialize and was a man known by many in Elton and the surrounding communities. He was a great storyteller and had a knack for keeping the mood light by joking with those around him. C.L. enjoyed barbequing, working in his yard/garden, and spending time on the farm even years after he retired. He was the ultimate handyman and worked on innumerous projects for his wife, daughters, and grandchildren. Later in life, he took pleasure in spending time with his large family at gatherings, and he especially liked watching his ten great grandchildren play and grow.

Those left to cherish C.L.'s memory include his wife of sixty-five years, Bethel Daugereaux; two daughters, Tresa Kirton and husband, Bill, of Cypress, TX and Junilla Byrne of Elton; six grandchildren, Kristie Kirton Boudreaux and husband, Jourdan, of Cypress, TX, David Kirton of Houston, TX, Jeremy Byrne and wife, Laci, of Elton, Jonathan Byrne and wife, Amber, of Elton, Mary Beth Byrne Dewees and husband, Joshua, of Elton and Joel Byrne of Baton Rouge; and ten great grandchildren, Liam and Emily of Cypress, TX, Nathan, Emmett, Beckett, Connor, Preslee, Aubrey, Owen, and Oliver all of Elton.

C.L. is preceded in death by his parents, Levy Daugereaux and Esther Daugereaux; brother, J.B. Daugereaux; nephew, Dennis Daugereaux; and son-in-law, Tim Byrne.
