Oberlin-A Mass of Christian burial honoring Carrol James Degeyter, 75, will be held at 11 o’clock a.m. on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in Oberlin. Rev. Fr. Pradeep Gali will officiate. Carrol will be laid to rest at Oaklin Springs Cemetery in Oberlin immediately following his services.
Carrol’s family will receive friends and visitors at Ardoin/Allen Parish Funeral Home of Oberlin on Monday evening, March 16, 2026, from 5- 9 o’clock p.m. with the recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7 o’clock p.m. Carrol’s visitation will resume at Ardoin/Allen Parish Funeral Home of Oberlin on Tuesday morning, March 17, 2026, at 8 o’clock a.m. until time of service. All of Carrol’s arrangements have been entrusted to care of Ardoin/Allen Parish Funeral Home of Oberlin.
Carrol was born on January 27, 1951, to the union of George and Odile Degeyter in St. Martinville, LA. He was a 1969 graduate of Breaux Bridge High School. Carrol served in the Louisiana Army National Guard from 1969 to 1976, achieving the rank of Sergeant. He earned his Bachelors, Masters, and plus 30 in Vocational Agriculture at LSU. Carrol often said he was a “Jack of all trades”. He taught high school Agriculture, was a truck driver for a while, and later worked offshore, until retirement. He was a member of The Knights of Columbus where he grew to be a fourth degree Knight. Carrol was a beloved son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He will be unconditionally loved and forever missed by all who knew him.
Those left to cherish Carrol’s memory are his wife of 53 years, Pat Degeyter; two sons, Dwayne Degeyter (Greg Aucoin), and Paul Degeyter and wife Sasha; two daughters, Jennifer Wisdom and husband Ryan, and Michelle Boyer and husband Chris; two grandchildren, Julia Wisdom, and Wesley Boyer; his mother, Odile Degeyter; one brother, Daniel Degeyter; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
Carrol was preceded in death by his father, George Blaise Degeyter and his brother, George Erick Degeyter.
