The family will receive visitors beginning Tuesday, November 2, 2021 at Ardoin/Allen Parish Funeral Home of Oakdale from 4-8 p.m. Visitation will resume at the church in Leesville on Wednesday morning at 10:30 a.m. until time of service.
Carolyn will be remembered as an intelligent, strong, creative and resourceful women of faith. While still in her twenties, her superior management skills were apparent. She managed a home with four children. She managed 4 machine shops in the Baton Rouge area, "Miss Precision". And she managed to travel over Africa and Europe, including time spent on the isle of Majorca.
She leaves a legacy of education, having taught in the public school system for 30 years. But, also a legacy of being a problem solver. There was never a dilemma, riddle, or math problem she could not solve. She could sew anything, with or without a pattern. She had an eye for home design and remodeling. Her eye for color and design coordination were spot on; she could take a plain box and make a masterpiece. She had a green thumb and could grow most anything. She lived a well-lived life. Experienced all the world has to offer. And at the end boasted of having done what she wanted when she wanted with no regrets. She was highly satisfied with her choices and happy with the results. She will be greatly missed and fondly remembered.
Those left to cherish Carolyn's memory include her husband, James Douglas Smith; her children, Reese Douglas Smith and wife, Mary, Heather Leigh Smith Vidrine and husband, Jacque, Marion Francis Smith and wife, Aster, and Llewellyn Euiell (Biscuit) Smith and wife, Casey; two brothers, Marion Oliver Sanders, Jr. and Richard Sanders; 14 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren.
Carolyn is preceded in death by her parents, Marion and Gladys Sanders; and two brothers, Wayne and Albert Sanders.
