Kinder-Funeral service for Carl James Fontenot, Sr., 75, will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 31, 2017, at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church. Rev. Keith Pellerin will officiate. Burial will follow in Carter Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Ardoin Funeral Home.
The family will receive visitors at Ardoin Funeral Home of Kinder on Monday, January 30, 2017 from 4-9 p.m. A special presentation will be made to the family by the American Legion Post #244 at 5:30 p.m. with the Holy Rosary being prayed at 6 p.m. Visitation will resume on Tuesday morning from 8 a.m. until time of service.
Carl, affectionately known as "Poppa",was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother. He was a lifelong resident of Kinder and member of St. Philip Neri Catholic Church. He was a devoted husband to his wife, Tomi, for 57 years. He served our country in the United States Army for over six years. Carl was very proud of his military background as a part of the 82nd airborne in Fort Bragg, NC. He liked plants and gardening. He also liked to play dominos and he loved playing chess. Carl never met a stranger and he loved to talk and visit. He especially loved spending time with his family. Carl will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Those left to cherish Carl's memory include his wife, Tomi Manuel Fontenot of Kinder; two daughters, Colleen Nevils and husband, Tim, of Kinder, and Laura Bertrand and husband, Ray, of Kinder; one brother, Charles Kenneth Fontenot and wife, Patsy, of Kinder; one god-son, Greg Fontenot; seven grandchildren-Trey Granger, Chassey Fontenot, Alex Bertrand, Race Nevils, Macy Bertrand, Kristen Nevils, and Carly Bertrand; and two great grandchildren, Jailyn Malveaux and Amiya Fontenot.
Carl is preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Laura Belle Fontenot; one son, Carl James "Jim" Fontenot, Jr.; and two brothers, Dennis and Philip Fontenot.
