Oberlin-A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Billy F. Bertrand, Sr., 66, at 10 a.m. on Monday, December 15, 2014 at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church. Rev. Jacob S. Conner will officiate. Burial will follow in Oberlin Cemetery under the direction of Allen Parish Funeral Home-Oberlin Chapel.
The family will receive visitors on Sunday, December 14, 2014 from 4-9 p.m. at Allen Parish Funeral Home, 119 S. 7th Street. The Holy Rosary will be prayed at 6 p.m. Visitation will continue at the funeral home on Monday morning from 8 a.m. until the time of service.
Billy was a lifetime resident of Oberlin and a lifelong member of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church where he served as an altar boy. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a devoted son, father, and grandfather. He loved spending time with his family, loved hunting and collecting old things. He liked Cajun music, dancing and was proud of his Cajun heritage. Billy was honored to serve our country in the U.S. Army. He was proud to be an Oberlin Tiger. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Those left to cherish Billy's memory include his mother, Joan Bertrand, of Oberlin; two sons, Matthew Bertrand and wife, Jordan, of Odessa, TX, and Joseph Billy Bertrand, Jr. and wife, Emily, of Oceanside, CA.; one daughter, Pylla Turner and husband, Kevin, of Grant; six grandchildren, Christa Taylor and husband, Andrew, of Ragley, Lance Turner of Grant, Kiana Bertrand and Kyle Bertrand of Oceanside, CA, and Paisley Bertrand and Parker Bertrand of Odessa, TX.
Billy is preceded in death by his father, Dallas Bertrand, and his son, Tyrel Bertrand.
