Oberlin-An Evening Rosary Service was held for Bernice Mooney, 97, on Thursday,June 12, 2014 at Allen Parish Funeral Home-Oberlin Chapel. The family received visitors from 4-7 P.M. with a rosary being prayed at 6:30 P.M. by Rev. Jacob S. Conner.
All arrangements have been entrusted to Allen Parish Funeral Home-Oberlin Chapel. A funeral for Bernice will also be held at Owens Funeral Home in Champaign, IL on June 21, 2014, where she will have her final resting place in Saint Joseph Cemetery-Bongard Community, Philo, IL.
Bernice was an Oberlin native. She graduated from St. Joseph's Nursing College in Houston, Texas, joined the Navy, and served in World War II. While in the Navy, she met her husband, John, and together they had four children. After the loss of her husband, she raised her four children by herself in Long Island, New York. Once her children were grown, she moved back to her home in Oberlin. She loved her home and community. She was able to live at home until her passing. Bernice was loved by everyone. She gave few words, but very helpful advice. Her memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved her.
Survivors include her two sons-John D. Mooney and Charles Mooney and wife, Agnes; two daughters-Kathleen Thaler and husband, Frederici and Theresa Mooney; three brothers-David, George, and Mickey; three sisters-Florence, Myrick, and Audrey; and, four grandchildren-Lucia, Jacob, Emily, and Sam.
Bernice is preceded in death by her husband, John Daniel Mooney.
